Membership of the German Workers' Party (DAP) surged over the course of 1920 and 1921, as a result of which they outgrew their cramped meeting space at the Sterneckerbräu brewery. In November 1921, this prompted the party leadership to rent three rooms and a large hall in the tavern at Corneliusstrasse 12, which it kept until the party was banned at the end of 1923. This premises was located in the Gärtnerplatz district, which was home to many Jews who had emigrated from Eastern Europe and left-wing workers. The building now houses residential and commercial units.
