1Oth anniversay nsdoku Reopening

On May 8—the eightieth anniversary of the end of World War II—we will open our doors again following five months of reconstruction work. May 8 also marks ten years since nsdoku first opened in 2015.

We will be presenting our new café and shop on the ground floor as well as new spaces designed for educational events and dialogue. We have also improved our security and barrier-free access. The event will begin at 1 pm with speeches by Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter and our director, Mirjam Zadoff. Afterwards, all our guests are invited to explore the building and participate in the many events on offer. A concert staged jointly with the University of Music and Theater to mark the anniversary of the end of World War II will begin at 7.30 pm.

To coincide with our reopening we will be launching the intervention Memory Is… Featuring more than twenty selected objects to be displayed in our permanent exhibition, it will expand the exhibition’s narrative with new stories. Some large, some small, some of them everyday, others more unusual, these objects will allow us to access history through our senses and view the past from a different perspective. In their video installation overexposed/underexposed the film-makers Mila Zhluktenko and Daniel Asadi Faezi investigate eight locations in Munich that are imbued with the experience of terrorist violence. These are places where people were killed, injured, or traumatized by far-right terrorists motivated by racism or antisemitism. The video installation is also intended as a memorial in film dedicated to the victims of the attacks. It will be on show until October 19, 2025.

To mark the reopening and our anniversary we are planning a varied program of events, which will include concerts, guided tours, discussions, a symposium, and a new program for children and families. Come and join us for a concert by the Stehgreif Orchester—an improvising symphony orchestra (May 10, 7 pm), a workshop for children “Deine Stimme zählt!”(Your Vote Counts, May 11, 11 am and 3 pm), a night-time reading (May 17, from 7 pm), a discussion with the author of the book Traumaland, Asal Dardan (May 16, 7 pm), or a concert and workshop by the feminist choir, the Witches of Westend (May 9, 6 pm).
