Mirjam Zadoff

Director

Since becoming director of the Munich Documentation Center in 2018, Mirjam Zadoff has worked to make it an internationally networked center of remembrance culture that is closely in touch with current discourses and methods. Her focus is on an interdisciplinary, multi-perspective, and inclusive culture of remembrance.

Anke Hoffsten

Deputy Director

In her function as deputy director, the art historian Anke Hoffsten is closely involved in the strategic, substantive, and organizational development of the Munich Documentation Center. She is also head of exhibitions and of the communications and program team. As a curator she realizes exhibitions and art interventions.

Philipp Kühne

Assistant to the Director / Junior Employee

Philipp Kühne coordinates all enquiries to the Director’s Office and also supports communication and events department. He is studying business with the City of Munich with a focus on Public Management and is currently doing an internship with us.

As assistant to the director and head of the office, Stefanie Poulios coordinates all enquiries to the Director’s Office. She is also responsible for the work of the Munich Documentation Center’s committees and for many other central tasks and internal management issues.

Paul-Moritz Rabe

Head of Research / Neuaubing Memorial Site

Paul-Moritz Rabe is Head of Research & Publications and of the new memorial site currently being created at the former forced labor camp Neuaubing. He develops concepts for exhibitions, events, outreach, and publication projects. His special fields are administrative, financial, and municipal history as well as public history and theory of history.

Michael Busam

Head of Administration

Michael Busam is Head of Human Resources and Organization, Accounting, and Technical Services. His responsibilities include finance, human resources planning, all legal issues, security, and day-to-day operations at the Munich Documentation Center.

Kirstin Frieden

Press and Public Relations

Kirstin Frieden is director of the Communications and Program departments. Alongside her function as press spokesperson she is also responsible for the Munich Documentation Center’s corporate identity and for all general printed matter such as flyers, posters, and the annual report as well as marketing. She is also involved in program planning.

Ilona Holzmeier

Online Communications

Ilona Holzmeier is in charge of the Munich Documentation Center’s entire online presence, from digital strategy and the website to social media, the newsletter, and online marketing as well as podcasts. In addition, she develops and realizes digital outreach programs, events series, and other projects.

Events

Julia Kessler

Trainee

The German studies graduate Julia Kessler joined the Munich Documentation Center in October 2023 as a trainee in the communications department. She supports our press and public relations work, undertakes marketing campaigns and target group research, and manages small digital projects.

Curator

Curator

The historian Ulla-Britta Vollhardt conceives and realizes exhibition projects, accompanying programs, and publications. She also contributes her scholarly expertise to the ongoing work of the Documentation Center. Her research focuses include the history of post-Nazi Germany, remembrance cultures, right-wing extremism, and LGBTQI+ history.

Kerstin Baur

Digital education

The East European historian Kerstin Baur designs digital mediation programs and develops media applications for on-site use, including for the future Neuaubing Memorial Site. Her work focuses on developing participatory digital concepts for specific target groups and implementing audio (visual) formats.

Nathalie Jacobsen

Cultural Education

Together with her colleagues historian Nathalie Jacobsen designs the tours and seminar program. Her main work is the conception and realization of training and seminars involving media and artistic approaches, especially in the fields of gaming, graphic novels, and literature.

Dirk Riedel

Historical and Political Education

The historian Dirk Riedel develops educational and memorial projects with and for students, teachers, and multipliers. Networking with other memorial sites is another main focus of his work. He also maintains contacts with contemporary witnesses and looks after the educational side of the future memorial site at the former forced labor camp in Neuaubing.

Thomas Rink

Historical and Political Education

Thomas Rink and his colleagues are responsible for the tours and seminar programs. He realizes participative projects and exhibitions by and with school classes and other educational institutions. His focus is on cultural education for young people from primary school age upwards.

Elisabeth Schulte

Visitors’ Service

The museologist Elisabeth Schulte is responsible for the visitors’ service. Her work ranges from advising groups about their visits to designing and evaluating visitor surveys. Together with her colleagues she develops programs for specific target groups with a focus on inclusion and disa-bled access.

Volunteer

Since September 2023 Julian Lindemann has been working at the Munich Documentation Center as a participant in the national voluntary services program. The historian Andreas Eichmüller is responsible for the research data bases and for the library and the collections. He participates in research, exhibition, and publication projects. As a historian he specializes in the prosecution of Nazi crimes and post-war history.

Denis Heuring

Publications

Denis Heuring has a background in Romance languages and literature. His responsibilities encompass the conception and realization of analogue and digital publications as well as the organization of interdisciplinary conferences and events. His areas of expertise include transnational remembrance culture, literary theory, and media ethics.

Manon Haase

Project coordination

The art history and law scholar Manon Haase is responsible for the coordination of the Neuaubing Memorial Site project. She oversees the drawing up of timetables and the organizational planning for the realization of that project. She also coordinates cooperation between the various internal and external agents.

Jadwiga Kamola

Curator

Jadwiga Kamola is a historian with a focus on the history of ideas. She develops and realizes exhibition formats and accompanying publications and events at the Neuaubing Memorial Site. In her curatorial work she examines continuities between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, in particular between art, fascism, and modernism. Another focus is post-migration memory.

Kristina Tolok

Research

The East European specialist Kristina Tolok joined the Munich Documentation Center as an intern and became a research assistant there in autumn 2022. She conducts research and contemporary witness projects on the subject of forced labor with special responsibility for the exhibition at the future Neuaubing Memorial Site.

Sandra Rogel

Academic Trainee

Sandra Rogel, a historian and literary scholar, began an internship at the Munich Documentation Center in October 2022. She is working mainly on the Neuaubing Memorial Site project, developing mediation formats, conducting research, and helping to develop an exhibition concept. She also assists with the Documentation Center’s collecting and public relations work.
