Closure, renovations, reopening

News from the Munich Documentation Center

Due to renovations, the Munich Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism will be closed to individual visitors from December 2024 to early May 2025. However, we still offer an educational program for school classes and groups during the closure. Working together with our cooperation partners, we will hold our evening events at alternative venues and online.

The renovations are aimed at improving building security as well as the construction of a long-planned café with bookshop on the ground floor of the Documentation Center. Accessibility in the entrance area and events hall will be optimized, and more room for education and discussions will be created on the exhibition floors. Renovations will also include the spatial design project "Open Doors" developed by the Munich Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism in cooperation with Studio Miessen. The first changes can now be seen in the forecourt in the form of the seating area constructed this autumn by the artist duo Empfangshalle.

The Documentation Center will reopen on May 8, 2025 to celebrate its tenth anniversary—just in time to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war. With our planned program of diverse events consisting of tours, workshops, concerts, and initiatives, we look forward to welcoming all of Munich’s residents once again.
