Tell Their Stories

The tenth anniversary of the far-right attack at the Olympia Shopping Mall in Munich

On July 22, 2016, Armela Segashi, Can Leyla, Dijamant Zabërgja, Guiliano Kollmann, Hüseyin Dayıcık, Roberto Rafael, Sabine Sulaj, Selçuk Kılıç, and Sevda Dağ were shot dead in a far-right terrorist attack at the Olympia Shopping Mall (OEZ) in Munich.

Their deaths were not a coincidence. The perpetrator deliberately chose the day, the location, and the victims. He murdered them based on far-right and racist motives. The attack at the OEZ is part of a long history of antisemitic, racist, and anti-Romani acts of violence in Germany since 1945.

Relatives and friends have been campaigning since the attack to ensure that the victims’ names are not forgotten and that their pain is not overshadowed by attempts to suppress or hush up the act.

Installation

From July 6 to August 3, 2026, we will commemorate those who were murdered with a video and flag installation. The video and sound installation offers a glimpse into the lives of Armela, Can, Dijamant, Guiliano, Hüseyin, Roberto, Sabine, Selçuk, and Sevda—through the words of their loved ones and a playlist of their favorite songs.

Let us remember those who were murdered, in solidarity with their families and friends. Let us take a stand against harassment, hate, and contempt for human life by showing humanity, solidarity, and empathy.
